Death has always been part of Tuscany's heritage. Even before the Etruscans, over 2,500 years ago, this location was desired and fought over. During the Middle Age and the Renaissance the worst enemies were your neighbors: the next village or city over. In more recent times death has occurred on a much larger scale.
