Trekking with the Baroness

Trekking with the Baroness

My friend Angela is an avid trekker, having trekked all the world, from Mexico and Mozambique to Jordan (seeing Petra) and the Alps. She has a close friend, the Baroness R., who also treks. Now the Baroness IS actually a Baroness (Baronessa in Italian). "There are many who claim to be part of the aristocracy but not many really are," she says.

The Baroness can trace her title, inherited from her father as his only child, back to the late 12th century. She has a real understanding of the "old" aristocracy. As she states, "They were just better thieves and robbers than most, that is how they obtained their titles." As you can tell from just this one snippet she is down to earth.

There are many things I have learned from her in our meetings. Trekking with a Baroness is not the same as trekking with just anyone. She told me to include this tip for those who stumble across this web page (she thinks no one will come here on their own, so stumble IS the operative word for her). As the Baroness says, "This is necessary information for living correctly, no matter" where you go or what you do."

Tip #1

" NEVER, NEVER touch fruit you are going to eat with your hands, even when trekking. Please remember to bring a knife and fork"
